AIMEE MULLINS

One of the Greatest American Women of the 20th Century!!!

Aimée Mullins is an actress, fashion model, advocate for women, participant in the Paralympic Games, the second youngest inductee into the United States' National Women's Hall of Fame (after Sally Ride, the astronaut!). Aimee proves throughout her life that a disabled person can turn into a superpowered one. Despite the most adversity of circumstances, Aimee chose to remain beautiful, healthy and successful. She learned how to walk, including on the catwalk at fashion shows, but also to run and long jump, including at the Paralympic Games in Atlanta, where she broke a couple of records. She was included in the list of the fifty most beautiful people in the world. Charming, successful and full of life - this girl proved by her example that weakness can be turned into strength. Aimee Mullins, actress and model, turned the idea that disability puts an end to even the simple joys of life!

Aimee Mullins was born without fibular bones & had both of her legs amputated below the knee when she was an infant. She learned to walk on prosthetics, then to run -- competing at the national and international level as a champion sprinter & setting world record at the 1996 Paralympics in Atlanta. At Georgetown, where she double majored in history & diplomacy, she became the first double amputee to compete in NCAA Division 1 track & field.

After school, Mullins did some modeling. Aimee was a muse (& friend) of legendary designer (Lee) Alexander McQueen & did an iconic runway show with him wearing a leather corset, lace skirt & carved ash legs. The outfit now resides in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Savage Beauty exhibit in New York City. Aimee has 12 pairs of prostheses, each designed by Miss Mullins herself. For example, the girl uses the so-called “cheetah legs” made of carbon fiber for running & attends social events on silicone legs. These wonderful legs are very difficult to distinguish from real ones - veins, veins & even hair follicles are drawn on them. In addition, Aimee's collection includes handmade ash prostheses (created specifically for the Alexander McQueen show), transparent, glass-like legs made of polyurethane, prostheses from the root system of beets and potatoes. With the help of her legs, Aimee can adjust her height from 173 to 185 cm.

Aimee was a Global Brand Ambassador for L’Oreal Paris, as well as photographed for the covers of famous magazines "Dazed", "Harper's Bazaar" & "Vogue".
